Cables 101 and KAL

Wednesday, March 16 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Learn cable basics and explore a variety of stitches from the traditional to contemporary.  Working from cable charts and written patterns both covered. 

Students have the option of knitting along using Norah Gaughan's Vintage Afghan.  There are 20 different blocks to choose from...knit one and make a pillow...knit 9 and make a baby blanket...knit 12 and make a throw...or knit them all.

Learn to knit socks...build your skills.  Two workshops in February.  

Training Wheels for New Sock Knitters is for someone who has never knit socks.  We work on larger size needles with thicker yarn working out way through the basic parts of a sock.

In Socks 101 we'll drop down to smaller needles and use sock yarn and work a basic top down sock pattern over two weeks.  

Classes are $25 or one class from your selected discount package per two hour session.  Supplies are extra.  Purchase your own or ask me for assistance.

Learn how to make your own yarn! 

In this two-hour workshop, you will learn:

How to spin wool on a drop spindle to create your very own thick-and-thin novelty yarn.

Techniques for plying your yarn.

Your hands-on experience will be punctuated by short talks on different types of spinning fibers and demonstrations of spinning equipment. 

Guest instructor Elisa Eiger learned to spin 16 years ago and hasn't stopped since. Although she currently has seven spinning wheels, much of her spinning is done on drop spindles, particularly whichever spindle happens to be living in her handbag at the time. She teaches spinning, dyeing, weaving, tatting, beading, and a number of other crafts, and demonstrates these and bobbin-lacemaking at local museums. She is currently co-president of Jockey Hollow Weavers Guild (Mendham, NJ) and president of the MidAtlantic Fiber Association (MAFA).

Knit/Crochet Newborn Hats in the color PURPLE.  The hats are to be used in concert with educational and awareness programs about the Period of PURPLE crying in an effort to reduce abuse/Shaken Baby Syndrome.  clickforbabies.org/index.php

Our hats will go to Prevent Child Abuse - New Jersey headquartered in New Brunswick.  This program was suggested by the newest TKB student, Carmella’s friend Linda V.
